Why We Haunt.
I have always loved "dressing up" to be something different. This certainly could have started when I was the Turtle in Mrs. S's first grade play. My Mom spent hours on the costume and I was the best looking critter in the show. I truly believe that this deep seated love stems from the many costumes that my Mom & Dad created throughout the years. Mostly for their own Halloween enjoyment. Even still they make new ones to add to the collection, to be used and shared as needed.
Remember when, like Christmas, Halloween used to be allowed in the schools? We would all dress up in our costumes for the last few hours of the day and get to parade thru the halls showing off to all the older kids. I was always so proud of my costume. Wonder Woman, The Cowardly Lion, a Clown, an Indian and so many other great creations. I remember feeling sorry for all the kids at school who were "forced" to wear those cheap plastic suits and masks purchased at the local superstore. I remember thinking how sad it was that their Mom didn't love them enough to go hunting at the Salvation Army for just the perfect "witch costume" beginnings. I revealed this thought to my Mom when I was in my teens. Her response was "I had to make the costumes for you kids, we couldn't afford the other kind." And so it begins...
It is not about affording the "other kind". It is about sharing what God has given you. Your talents, time, stuff and home with others.
It is about creativity, ingenuity, team work and family.
Welcome to the Haunted House that everyone can enjoy, not too scary, not too gorey, not too cheesy (ok, maybe a little)... but for everyone who would like to come.
Welcome to:
HAUNT OUT HUNGER
This site is dedicated to Alice Bennett.
Great Gram/Grandma donated her time and our summers making and creating crafts for Vacation Bible School at her church. We spent hours and hours pouring plaster and making craft samples. When I was little, she always told me that her craft closet (the leftovers) belonged to me when she died. She had everything you could imagine, and each year a little of it makes it's way into the haunt.
How did she know?
Right now I am sure she is in charge of the craft department in Heaven. I long for the day when I can be her assistant. I can't wait to debut the pneumatic "Jesus Pop-up". I just know it will be a hit! :)
Great Gram, we love you and miss you!
